I have been reading allot about better Headlines and their effect on driving traffic to your site. The first thing I learned was that my headlines have stunk. Would this one be considered “linkbait?” Probably not but I have a sneaking suspicion it will drive more click throughs than anything else I have posted.
I bet there are a few guys out there thinking “Where do I sign up?” or a few wifes out there thinking “Where do I sign him up?”
Well get your minds out of the gutter. I am referring to an announcement I heard yesterday at the airport. For $39 there were a few “premium” seats left that had 5 more inches of leg room. Thats $7.80 per inch! Really!? What do you really get out of five more inches? (in an airplane seat, again get your mind out of the gutter)
This headline was in no way misleading – it summarized exactly what I intended on talking about. 🙂
To the gutter minds out there – Sorry, but while I have your attention why not check out a few other posts below:

Try being tall… I know that isn’t the point of this article, but on a two or three hour flight, 5 inches is HUGE (funny, I think I tried to sell that very same statement to my wife) . Anyways, point is look at things from the perspective of others… extra legroom on a flight is a big deal to some of us.
On topic, if you want to remain credible, you have to remain ethical. So, while creative headlines are a must, they probably shouldn’t be misleading or overly dramatic.
Good points. I guess the 5 inches could actually be worth the $39 to some. But come on, the headline was not false in anyway. I did however go through a big range of emotion after hitting publish. “Did I cross that fine line of edgy?, Was it misleading?” – At the end of the day I guess its all dependant on the perspective and if there is ever a time to make mistakes and learn from them – early on is the time. It was a test afterall and guess what – 2x any prior post in views. I promise – no more tricks. 🙂
Heh, I wasn’t criticizing this title… I mean really, it was the point of the article.
I was just discussing the topic of headlines in general. Media sensationalism drives me absolutely bonkers. In my opinion, it is one of the most negative influences on society. So, I guess you could say that I am probably far more picky than most people when it comes to this topic.
